Mom-preneur got started with a tutu! by Kim Campbell

Teri Corea has always had an artistic bend. The “mom-preneur” loves to paint, draw, craft and most of all sew. Corea learned to sew as a child and loves nothing better than creating at her sewing machine.

Corea’s children’s gift business When Piggies Fly evolved naturally from her love of children and sewing. The mother of three has been making costumes and gifts for her own family for years. One day, she came up with a design for a bag for her daughter to take to ballet class. The ballet bag looks just like a satin and tulle ballet costume and is big enough to carry ballet shoes, water bottle, and leotard. When her daughter showed her new bag to her friends, Corea was suddenly inundated with requests for more of them.

“The more bags I made, the more requests I got,” says Corea. “My friends kept telling me I should go into business, so I thought, why not?”

Corea says she named her business When Piggies Fly as a reminder to herself that if you work hard and have fun, anything is possible. She is always dreaming up new designs to add to her collection of unique gifts.

Corea’s pieces are as durable as they are beautiful. Each piece is handmade with high quality materials and with great attention to detail. Most items, such as her baby blankets, bags, aprons and capes can be customized to order.

Welcome to my Blog/Shop!

{ Saturday, December 19, 2009 }

Welcome to my Blog/shop "When Piggies Fly...". I am a mother-of-three and avid sewer! Please feel free to browse through my picture gallery to view what I have available for sale and what projects I have been working on recently.

All items are handmade with the highest quality and regard for detail. Each piece is specifically designed to be durable as well as functional.

The large ballet bag holds all that a dancer needs, while the smaller version is just big enough to hold a water bottle and a pair of dance shoes. I find that most of my customers purchase the smaller bag as a fun purse for any little girl! They are quite unique and are often mistaken as a ballet outfit!

I also have a variety of other items available. My children's aprons can be personalized with a child's name or favourite food (usually a cupcake!!!). Baby blankets can include a name, date of birth, or initials. I have a large stock of fabrics in a variety of colours and textures, so there is no limit to how customized an item could be!!!

I have named my shop/business "When Piggies Fly" to be a reminder to myself that if you work hard and have fun than anything is possible (plus, I LOVE Miss.Piggy!). I have sewn since I was a small child and still find great joy when I am in front of the sewing machine, I have a feeling the same will be true when I am old and gray.

If you are interested in purchasing an item please contact me by phone or email. I accept cash, cheque or paypal. If you do not live in the Toronto area shipping costs can be discussed once your order is placed. I stand by the quality of my work, but if you are not satisfied for any reason please let me know I will provide you with a full refund once the item is returned.

I hope you enjoy my blog and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

All the best,
Teri Corea
